What one call gets you

What one phone call can do for your family

None of this requires the person to be ready, or even to know you are calling.

01

Find out how soon

When things are urgent this is the question that matters. We will tell you honestly what today looks like — whether a bed is open, what admission would involve, and how quickly it could happen.

02

Check their insurance

Usually all we need is a name, a date of birth and the plan on the card. We can run it while you are on the phone, so you find out what is covered before you raise it with them.

03

Call them, if that would help

If the conversation would land better coming from outside the family, we can make the approach instead. Give us a number and a good time, and someone experienced will have that first conversation so it does not have to come from you.

04

Just talk it through

Calling with no plan at all, only worry, is a completely reasonable use of this phone number. We will help you work out what you are actually looking at and what the options are.

You do not need their permission to ask questions. You can find out what treatment involves, what it costs and whether a bed is open, without committing anyone to anything. That call often comes weeks before the person you love is ready, and it is still the right call to make.

When they are not there yet

If the person you love is not ready

There is no script for this that reliably works. Readiness usually arrives suddenly and without warning, and the families who already know where to send someone lose the least time when it does.

Whatever has already been said or tried, none of it counts against them here. People arrive after years of it and people arrive after one bad week. Both are welcome.

Timing beats persuasion

Almost nobody agrees to treatment because of one perfect conversation. What tends to help is being ready when they are — knowing where they would go, what it costs, and that a bed is there. Doing that groundwork now means saying yes takes a phone call rather than a week.

Hand off the hard part

If the conversation keeps ending badly, it does not have to be you having it. We can call them directly. Sometimes hearing it from someone outside the family, who is not hurt or frightened, lands differently.

A hospital stay is often the moment

A hospital visit or a discharge is often the moment something shifts. If that is where you are, tell us — those windows are short, and we can move quickly when there is a bed.

Looking after yourself is part of it

Living alongside someone else’s drinking or using is exhausting, and it does not require a crisis to justify asking for support. Ask us about family therapy and what support looks like for you, not only for them.

"Buena Vista was great for me. Comfortable, good groups, great staff. If I need to return I know they are there. And I'd recommend this place to anyone in need of recovery from addiction. Lolo at the front is always warm and welcoming, the nurses are caring and always there to help! Can't forget the BHTs always asking what they can do to help in whatever way they can."

"I cannot express enough gratitude for the support I received from Buena Vista Recovery. Katy went above and beyond in helping me navigate my court case and making pre-trial calls, ensuring I felt supported and informed every step of the way. Her dedication was truly remarkable. Mr Bacon and the entire staff played a pivotal role in changing my life for the better. Their compassion, understanding, and commitment to my recovery made all the difference. I highly recommend Buena Vista Recovery to anyone seeking help and transformation. Thank you all for everything!"

"So incredibly grateful for everyone that has been there for me throughout my recovery journey. I really miss residential lol. Not only were the staff there absolutely phenomenal and amazingly informed, but most really enjoyed what they were doing. The kitchen and food was five star most days. On top of all that, I got to have my own room and bathroom, queen size bed, vaulted ceilings, and flat screen tv. But, I am extremely grateful for the monthly Alumni events that we have. It's one of the highlights of my month every single time. Thank you Buena Vista. If I could give more stars, I so would."

"I'm so grateful for this place 💯!!! I learned so much about myself and got some great tools and the help I need. I'm out of inpatient but I'm still going there for services. I have all the love for the faculty and that place in general. They are amazing. Anyone that has anything bad to say about Buena Vista was either there for the wrong reasons or weren't ready. Thank you guys all the way around"

"I just want to say thank you to Buena Vista and the staff that work there. These people care. I can personally tell the difference between someone who just comes in for a paycheck and someone who has unconditional love and concern for every individual that they work with. From detox to out patient the staff go above and beyond to get their patients needs met! A special thanks to my case manager Katy for believing in me when I didn't even believe in myself. She met with me every day she worked and set me up for success! I'm on the next chapter of my life not only clean but finally happy. Thank you Katy!! And thank you Buena Vista. I recommend anybody needing help to at least check in for detox. Much love to you all"

Getting in

How to get someone you love into treatment

Most of it happens on one phone call, and often on the same day.

  1. 1

    Call, any hour

You do not need them with you

  2. 2

    Tell us about it

    What you know is enough

  3. 3

    Coverage check

A name and date of birth

  4. 4

    Provider review

    Confirming the right level

  5. 5

    Bed confirmed

    Often the same day

  6. 6

    They arrive

    We can arrange the ride

Call before you come, and we will have everything ready for you. The phone assessment and the benefits check are what let us hold a bed, complete the provider review, and meet you at the door instead of leaving you waiting at it.

Straight answers

Questions families have

Can I call on behalf of someone else?+

Yes, and a great many people do. You can ask anything you like about the program, the timing and the cost. There are limits on what we can share back about an adult who is already in our care — that is health privacy law rather than a house rule — but nothing stops you asking questions or starting the process.

How quickly could they come in?+

When a bed is open and coverage checks out, admission can often happen the same day. Beds move, so the honest answer changes by the week — call and we will tell you what today actually looks like.

Can you find out what their insurance covers?+

Usually yes. A name, a date of birth and the plan on their card is normally enough for us to run a check while you are on the phone. It costs nothing and commits nobody to anything, and it means you can raise the subject already knowing the answer.

Will you call them instead of me?+

If that would help, yes. Give us a number and a sensible time to try, and someone who has had this conversation many times will make the approach. Coming from outside the family, it sometimes goes better.

They are in hospital right now. What should I do?+

Call us while they are still there. Discharge windows tend to be short. Tell us the timing and we will work to it — we can also speak to a case manager or discharge planner directly.

Can I visit, and can we stay in touch?+

Yes. There are set arrangements for visiting and for phone and technology access, designed so people can stay connected with family while still getting the benefit of being away from everything for a while. Ask us for the current details when you call.

Is there anything for me in this?+

There is. Family therapy is part of what we offer, and family follow-ups continue after discharge. Supporting someone through this is genuinely hard, and you are allowed to need something for yourself as well.

Start with one call. We'll take it from there.

We answer at any hour of the day or night. There is nothing you have to decide on that first call, and nothing you need to have worked out before you make it.
