Getting help for addiction is incredibly brave. If you’re looking for a detox in Chandler, you’ve already taken the first step to recovery.

A medical detox is a safe, effective way to remove substances such as alcohol and opioids from your system — it’s conducted by licensed professionals, in a dedicated health center. Detox can help to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, lower your cravings, and reduce your risk of relapse. It can also ensure that you have the necessary emotional and psychological care.

The sooner you start a detox, the sooner you can begin healing. At Buena Vista Health & Recovery Center in Chandler, we offer same-day admissions for detox.

What Is Drug & Alcohol Detox?

A detox is when you remove substances from your body. These can include alcohol, prescription pills, opioids such as fentanyl, or other drugs. Detox normally involves staying at a health center under 24/7 medical supervision to ensure your safety.

At Buena Vista Health & Recovery Center, our detox program lasts between 2 and 10 days. We have calm residences for you to stay in while you go through detox. We also have Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) where needed, which helps manage severe withdrawal symptoms and can make detox more comfortable for you.

Can You Receive Mental Health Treatment During Detox?

Detox is part of our Dual Diagnosis program too: this program treats mental health disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders. Detox is the first part of Dual Diagnosis. Once you’re stable, you join evidence-based therapy sessions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to address root causes of addiction, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of thinking.

As you detox, we have yoga and holistic activities available for you to participate in, to foster good physical and mental health.

Research repeatedly shows that treating a mental health disorder and substance use disorder simultaneously is beneficial for long-term recovery outcomes [1]

What Withdrawal Symptoms Are Treated in Detox?

The symptoms you experience during withdrawal can vary depending on the substance(s) you’ve taken, how long you’ve taken them, and in what dosage. General withdrawal symptoms for alcohol and substances include:

  • Cravings

  • Sweating and chills

  • Body aches

  • Diarrhea

  • Digestive issues

  • Anxiety or irritability

  • Sleep disruption

More severe withdrawal symptoms include psychosis, seizures, and tremors. These are rare but possible and should only be managed under the care of medical professionals and resources.

Who Are Detoxes For?

Anyone who is struggling with addiction can attend a detox program. Addiction is a chronic disease that affects more than 46 million people in the US [2]. Having an addiction changes the brain function responsible for impulse-control systems, motivation, and sense of reward. Addiction is not a choice, nor does it have to define you. It is possible to recover from addiction.

In our detox center in Chandler, we welcome anyone who needs treatment. In particular, we treat the following addiction disorders:

We also have approaches to accommodate specific ages and sexes. We know that biological and social factors play a big role in how addiction forms and manifests, and so our detox programs and aftercare are designed accordingly.

How Does Detox Fit Into Addiction Recovery?

After removing substances from your system, you can transition into care with a clear body and mind. A residential program can support you while you live on-site at a center and attend therapy sessions. Alternatively, an outpatient or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) allows you to receive structured, on-site care but return home in the evening.

Studies show that comprehensive care given within 1 week after detox programs gives people the highest probability of sustained recovery [3].

The type of care that you move into post-detox will depend on your health history, needs, and goals. Whatever the format of care, you will learn to build coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and crucial skills that maintain sobriety for the long-term.

Our detox team can work with you to determine the best line of treatment and to ensure that all treatment is personalized to you.
