AHCCCS & Medicaid · Chandler, Arizona

Does AHCCCS Cover Rehab in Arizona?

In Arizona it is usually called Access. Either way, the state's Medicaid program covers real addiction treatment — medical detox and a full residential stay — and the majority of the people we care for are covered exactly that way.

  • AHCCCS covers medical detox and residential treatment
  • Banner University Family Care is in network with us
  • We check your specific plan while you are on the phone
  • No cost to find out, and no obligation afterwards

There are several AHCCCS plans, and we are adding contracts as we go. Rather than guess from a list that changes, give us two minutes on the phone and we will tell you exactly where your plan stands — and if we are not the right fit, we will help you find somewhere that is.

What it pays for

Access covers more than people expect

State coverage is widely assumed to mean a waiting list and a watered-down version of treatment. It does not. AHCCCS covers medically supervised detox and a full residential stay, in the same building, in the same private rooms, with the same clinical team as everybody else.

In fact, Medicaid authorizations for residential care often run longer than commercial ones — which means more time to do the work rather than less.

You will not be treated differently here for how your care is funded. Around six in ten of the people in our care are covered by Access.

Medical detox

Covered

Around-the-clock nursing, physician oversight and medication to keep you comfortable while your body clears. Typically a few days, depending on what you have been using and your medical history.

Residential treatment

Covered

A full live-in stay, commonly authorized somewhere between thirty and forty-five days — often a longer stay than commercial plans allow. Private room, catered meals, group and individual therapy.

Co-occurring mental health care

Covered

Depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma treated alongside substance use inside the residential program, rather than as something you have to arrange separately afterwards.

Your plan specifically

Which Access plans we take

Banner University Family Care is in network with us today. If that is the plan on your card, you are covered here and we can talk about a bed straight away.

Our Chandler facility reopened recently under new ownership, and we are steadily reinstating the rest of our health-plan contracts. Several are in progress right now, which is why a live check beats any list we could print here.

Whatever your plan turns out to be, call us anyway. Helping people find the right program — here or elsewhere in Arizona — is a normal part of what our admissions team does, and you will not be left to work it out alone.

01

Tell us the name on your card

Access is delivered through several health plans and each one contracts separately. The plan name on your card is all we need to start.

02

We check it while you wait

It takes a couple of minutes, it is free, and it commits you to nothing. You will get a straight answer rather than a maybe.

03

You leave the call with a plan

If we are in network, we talk about beds and timing. If your plan is one we are still working on, we help you find a program that takes it.

"Buena Vista was great for me. Comfortable, good groups, great staff. If I need to return I know they are there. And I'd recommend this place to anyone in need of recovery from addiction. Lolo at the front is always warm and welcoming, the nurses are caring and always there to help! Can't forget the BHTs always asking what they can do to help in whatever way they can."

"I cannot express enough gratitude for the support I received from Buena Vista Recovery. Katy went above and beyond in helping me navigate my court case and making pre-trial calls, ensuring I felt supported and informed every step of the way. Her dedication was truly remarkable. Mr Bacon and the entire staff played a pivotal role in changing my life for the better. Their compassion, understanding, and commitment to my recovery made all the difference. I highly recommend Buena Vista Recovery to anyone seeking help and transformation. Thank you all for everything!"

"So incredibly grateful for everyone that has been there for me throughout my recovery journey. I really miss residential lol. Not only were the staff there absolutely phenomenal and amazingly informed, but most really enjoyed what they were doing. The kitchen and food was five star most days. On top of all that, I got to have my own room and bathroom, queen size bed, vaulted ceilings, and flat screen tv. But, I am extremely grateful for the monthly Alumni events that we have. It's one of the highlights of my month every single time. Thank you Buena Vista. If I could give more stars, I so would."

"I'm so grateful for this place 💯!!! I learned so much about myself and got some great tools and the help I need. I'm out of inpatient but I'm still going there for services. I have all the love for the faculty and that place in general. They are amazing. Anyone that has anything bad to say about Buena Vista was either there for the wrong reasons or weren't ready. Thank you guys all the way around"

"I just want to say thank you to Buena Vista and the staff that work there. These people care. I can personally tell the difference between someone who just comes in for a paycheck and someone who has unconditional love and concern for every individual that they work with. From detox to out patient the staff go above and beyond to get their patients needs met! A special thanks to my case manager Katy for believing in me when I didn't even believe in myself. She met with me every day she worked and set me up for success! I'm on the next chapter of my life not only clean but finally happy. Thank you Katy!! And thank you Buena Vista. I recommend anybody needing help to at least check in for detox. Much love to you all"

Questions about Access coverage

Is AHCCCS the same thing as Access?+

Yes — two names for the same program, and Access is the one used day to day. It is Arizona's Medicaid program, and it covers substance use and mental health treatment.

Will treatment cost me anything?+

For people covered by an Access plan we are in network with, treatment is covered. There is no separate bill for the room, the meals or the therapy. If anything about your particular plan works differently, we will tell you before you arrive rather than after.

How do I find out which plan I have?+

The plan name is printed on your AHCCCS card — Banner University Family Care, Mercy Care, Health Choice, Molina and Arizona Complete Health are the common ones. If you cannot find the card, we can usually work it out from your name and date of birth on the phone.

Do I get less time in treatment on Access?+

Generally the opposite. Residential stays authorized through Medicaid often run around thirty to forty-five days, which tends to be longer than commercial plans allow. Detox is usually a shorter stay, sized to what your body needs.

What if I have Access but no way to get there?+

Say so when you call. We provide airport pickup, and for anyone coming from further out our admissions team will talk through the practicalities with you rather than leaving transport as your problem to solve.

What if I'm not on AHCCCS yet?+

You can still call. Being mid-application, or unsure whether you qualify at all, is a perfectly normal place to start from, and we can talk through what your options look like in the meantime — including what treatment costs without insurance.

Start with one call. We'll take it from there.

We answer at any hour of the day or night. There is nothing you have to decide on that first call, and nothing you need to have worked out before you make it.
